“In my paintings I like to explore the relationships between shapes, colours, lines and spaces. I like to condense these elements in the landscape whilst still retaining the essence of the locality.  Paintings commence with rapid application of the underpainting from which an unintentional network of shapes may emerge. These can be enhanced or simplified to assist the proportions and balance of the design. The painting often takes me on a journey that may not follow the original concept. My work is focused on the beauty and expanse of the WA environment: getting out into this environment reminds us to slow down and reconnect with nature.” — Ian Dickinson
